I beat the game in one weekend because I was compelled to see it through to the end. This is because of how disappointed I was throughout my time with the game. I'm going to let you know ahead of time that I will be spoiling the game because I need to explain why I did not like The Last of Us 2 not because of the PC wokeness in the game but because the game fails as a sequel.
Alright, now that the warning is out of the way let's get to the point. This game feels like an incoherent mess.

I hated how Joel's death was handled. I understand how brutal the world of The Last of Us is, but this is still a work of fiction and the death of a beloved protagonist must be taken as to not anger a fan base. By that, I mean that a death must be handled in a way that best suites the character in a dignified way. Sure, it can be argued that Joel was not much of a hero to begin with let alone that he possibly doomed mankind by the end of the first game. However, through the 15 hour journey that we spent with him in the first game it's impossible not to feel sympathy for the poor guy. We see him lose his first daughter and then here he is traveling with a young girl across the country progressively seeing her as his own daughter by the time the game is over.

Then, we probably seem him for a total of less than 30 minutes before he is brutally executed with a gold club. As if he wasn't all that important.

Look, if Joel was going to die I would have been fine with it. I'm never against killing a protagonist as long as it serves importance to the plot and it's handled properly, but there was no buildup nor "goodbye" for Joel. We don't get those buildups until after his death has occurred.

This leads up to my second point: the organization of the story.

I did not like playing 10 hours of Ellie and 10 hours of Abby. By the time you reach Ellie's conclusion before playing as Abby, you already will feel burned out. Then, having to play 10 hours as a hated character in order to reach the present time in the story is just unnecessary.

If they were going to do this, they could have easily swapped back and fourth between Ellie and Abby, so that there stories would coincide in a much more fluid pace. Splitting up the story in two was just a terrible design choice.

I get why they did it. However, I see no reason why I should feel a sense of guilt over Abby's loss. She's no better than Joel. In the flashback with Abby and her father, Abby literally told her father that she WOULD NOT WANT her father to perform the surgery on her if she was in Ellie's position. How can you possibly want players to empathize with Abby if she literally had that same thought process as Joel!?

By the end, we see that revenge is such a forced theme here. Ellie loses everything, Abby got her revenge and is now off to live a life with Lev with the same relationship reminiscent of Joel and Ellie. I have a lot to complain about the ending because Ellie deserved so much better. You don't just go on a revenge quest for months and just let it go at the very last minute. Let alone she went on this revenge quest in order to stop her nightmares and alleviate her PTSD. This was just a dumb plot device.

It would have made a more potent ending if Ellie got her revenge then lost everything! It would have made for a more ambiguous ending if Ellie did the right thing to avenge Joel and what becomes of her as a result of her vengeance.

In conclusion, I don't believe The Last of Us 2 is a bad game. Its gameplay is a more refined version of the first game. If you liked the gameplay from the first game, you'll love this one. However, the story is just a mess that could have been told in a different manner and different choices could have been made.

The trailers have lied to us all. I'm expecting some overly angry fans to file lawsuits against Naughty Dog over the trailers vs the final game.
I bet you all thought I was dead. Since I was gone, I believe I only had two new posts. I apologize for my absence, and I'm back in the saddle again. I've missed so much in these two years and will have plenty of time to relish in those times, but I really want to talk about the Resident Evil 3 Remake. Strap in folks because I really need to vent about this game.

This is my copy I got from Best Buy. Notice RE3 and Resistance have to be downloaded separately.

Before I begin, I will not be spoiling the game and this is not a review. In addition, I'm not going to be tearing this game to pieces. I actually enjoyed my time with Resident Evil 3, but the glaring issues keep if from living up to the standard of what a remake should look like when compared to Resident Evil 2 Remake.

Let me start with the elephant in the room, Nemesis has been hyped up by Capcom since they showed the reveal trailer of him with the flamethrower. Don't worry! No false advertising here! Well, sorta.

I'm going to be as nice as possible when I say this: Nemesis is a glorified cameo in this game. His appearances either have you running from him or fighting him as a boss fight. However, his boss fights are entertaining, but they are far and few between. I can argue that his boss fights are probably the only challenging aspects of the game.

To those of you who absolutely hated Mr. X in Resident Evil 2 Remake, you'll be thanking the heavens that there won't be some giant, unkillable monster following you around. For those of you who actually enjoyed Mr. X in RE2 because he added tension to the game, you will be disappointed.

And this is my main issue with Resident Evil 3 Remake, there doesn't feel to be nearly as much tension as RE2 Remake. RE2 was a true survival horror experience while RE3 does feel a lot more action oriented. Not saying there isn't survival horror elements within the game, but there just isn't enough of it. Sure, you can argue that the original RE3 was also a lot more action orientated as well, but this is supposed to be a re-imagining. Capcom didn't have to stick close to the source material.

I know what some of you may be thinking, "But it's just a personal preference! Some of us like the action that RE4 introduced into the series to begin with!". Alright, I can agree with this statement. Resident Evil 4 was my first game in the series that I've played, so even I can admit that I didn't really get my taste of the true survival horror experience until I played Code Veronica for the first time, but it doesn't excuse the difficulty.

What I mean by this is that Resident Evil 3 Remake is a lot easier compared to RE2. Nemesis doesn't follow you around until you hit a set piece and add in the fact that you can dodge attacks make this game a breeze to complete. I literally bought this game on Sunday and beat it the same day on Hardcore. Don't believe me?

Sure I got a C, but I still finished the game in under 6 hours.

As I mentioned earlier, the only challenging aspect of the game is Nemesis's boss fights. I would say more than half of my total deaths came from those boss fights.

Once you get used to using the dodge mechanic, you will pretty much be unstoppable. I've seen clips of people literally just rolling through zombies without a scratch. It's no wonder Capcom removed sub-weapons and made the knife unbreakable because it would be virtually impossible to die unless you mess up. However, it is skill based. You have to have a good sense of timing in order to execute the dodge correctly, so I wouldn't call it overpowered.

Regardless, this makes this game a speedrunner's wet dream. This game is incredibly short. While you can take your time by searching for unlockable, it doesn't add too much time to the total completion. Resident Evil 2's length was also short, but it had replayability.

Resident Evil 3 really struggles in the replayability department. Sure, you unlock harder difficulties once you finish Hardcore and can unlock an even harder mode after beating Nightmare, but not everyone is up for that kind of challenge. In addition, you unlock the shop which you can use points you gathered throughout your playthrough to get things like infinite ammo. This makes the game even easier to get through.

To summarize, Resident Evil 3 feels like it could have been added as DLC to Resident Evil 2. They are using the same engine anyway and you even get to visit some familiar places from RE2, so why shouldn't it have been DLC? Although the game itself is very much enjoyable, I can't be pressed to recommend it at its current price point.

By the way, I only played maybe an hour of Resident Evil Resistance. It's fun, but I don't see much lasting appeal to it in the long run.
I've been playing some more games that I've been wanting to talk about and I want to cover some more news in the gaming industry. I've actually missed out on a lot of big news.

I'll admit that I've never played the first Soulcalibur. My first game I played in the series was the second game, and I have not played any of the sequels since. It's not because of my lack of interest in the series, but I never was a big fan of fighting game. Games like Tekken, Mortal Kombat, and Street Fighter never interested me because I was not willing to put in the time to learn how to play them. Super Smash Bros. is the exception, but that's another story.

Soulcalibur, on the other hand, has a special place in my heart. What makes Soulcalibur different compared to other fighting games is that it is weapon based combat. You have characters that fight with swords, axes, finger blades, chain swords, and even staffs. Personally, I'm more of a fan of weapon based combat compared to hand-to-hand combat in video games because there are no games that come to mind that have a weapon-based system in terms of swords quite as refined as Soulcalibur.

Much like any game in this genre, do not expect any kind of realistic swordplay. As a matter of fact, expect some over-the-top, fluid Japanese action. Everything from the animations to the art style screams Japanese culture. However, Soulcalibur is known for having these different types of Western and Eastern cultures mashing together as if they are all one culture. You have characters that are equipped with classic Japanese weaponry and others that are equipped with complete anime style weaponry. It may come off as somebody just throwing together different time periods, but it just works here because of the presentation.

By presentation, I mean that the game makes it clear that there are fighters from various types of cultures coming together. However, how exactly does this relate to the gameplay itself?

Since different types of cultures come into play, the types of weapons being used differ and different weapons mean different playstyles. You have characters that are best suited for close-quarters combat, long-range, medium-range, or a mix. Sure, this can be said for a lot of fighting games, but for Soulcalibur you don't really need to have a whole lot of skill to get used to character's playstyles and movement patterns. You can jump on any characters and quickly learn how they function after a match or two. However, if you really want to get good with any character then you do have to put in the time to learn.

If you've played any Soulcalibur game in the past, then the gameplay hasn't changed much for better or worse. However, the introduction of the reversal edge mechanic has made things a lot more interesting to say the least. In case you don't know what reversal edge is, think of it as "rock, paper, scissors".

Before I talk about the multiplayer portion of the game, I want to talk about the single player aspect of Soulcalibur 6. It's not exactly great. There are two different story modes: Soul Chronicle and Libra of Souls. Soul Chronicle lets you play as most of the characters in the game and experience their own stories based around their quest for Soul Edge. Libra of Souls is more of an RPG where the story centers around your created character.

To be honest, neither of these modes are game sellers. Although I appreciate the effort that has been put into the story modes, both of them feel like a chore to play. Personally, I played Soul Chronicle to experience the story of Geralt of Rivia. I think that his story should be experienced especially by Witcher fans.

Okay, now let's talk about the multiplayer.

The multiplayer is so much fun. This is going to be the mode that you are going to spend the most time on. I know that put in over 9 days of gameplay into Soulcalibur 6. Updates are given regularly in order to make tweaks to the characters available in the game in order to spice the game up. Although I can't speak for the PC or PS4 playerbase, there are enough people to play against in the Xbox One version of the game.

However, the community can be toxic. Considering the fact that this is a fighting game we're talking about, toxicity should be expected. I can't go a day without somebody telling me to go kill myself or even teabagging me. Personally, it doesn't bother me that much, but I want to tell people who are jumping into this game as beginners to not get discourged from these scumbags. This is such a fun game that shouldn't be ruined by the small amount of players that want to ruin the experience to other people.

This is a game that should be played by both casual and hardcore fighting game fans. If it ever goes on sale, I highly recommend picking this game up.
I've been busy with life stuff, but I've still been gaming. I recently got an Xbox One X and bought Spider-Man on release day. This isn't going to really be a review since I already said it was awesome, but it's an explanation as to why I feel that Spider-Man is the best superhero game to ever grace the face of the Earth.

Let me get the elephant out of the room, the combat can be reminiscent of the Batman Arkham games. However, this game still manages to expand on the combat by adding in the web mechanics as well as Spider-Man's more acrobatic combat style. You can even upgrade Spider-Man's gadgets to make combat a lot more dynamic than it already is.

I do recommend playing this game on the highest difficulty to take full advantage of the crafting system as well as upgrading Spider-Man's abilities. You probably will want to upgrade his abilities anyway especially when it comes to web-swinging. How about the suits? Well, each of them comes with a unique ability, but you don't necessarily get an advantage by choosing particular suits to wear as you can mix each suit ability with each other. My only complaint is that there is no Spider-Cop costume, yet.

Speaking of web-swinging, this is easily the best web-swinging mechanic ever seen in a Spider-Man game. I never thought that I would say that there would be a web-swinging mechanic that would surpass Spider-Man 2. It makes you feel like Spider-Man! That sounds stupid to say, but traveling in this game just makes you feel so pumped up. Additionally, this is one of those games where you will rarely use fast travel. I know for certain that I used fast travel only twice before completing the main story. It's incredibly detailed too because there has to be surfaces where Spider-Man can use his webs; otherwise, you will just continue to be in free fall. I also should mention that every time you web-swing a little music track will play and it's very reminiscent to those of you who watched Spidey on the big screen.

What about the story? Don't expect anything that is fresh, but this is a solid story for a Spider-Man game. The main characters are interesting and stay true to their comic book roots. There were a few side characters that could have been fleshed out more, but it wasn't a deal breaker for me. In true Marvel fashion, you are tossed right into the action and the cutscenes for the game makes you feel like you are watching a Saturday morning cartoon. Sometimes, you don't really need a deep story to make a good story. Just make the characters interesting as well as the plot and you're good to go.

I'm not a graphics whore, but this is easily one of the best looking games of 2018 and arguably of this console generation. I played Spider-Man on the PS4 Pro version of the game and it looks phenomenal. I've heard reviewers say that Spider-Man doesn't have the best uses of HDR, but I would disagree with that statement. New York City looks absolutely gorgeous with HDR and the colors stand out so much more in Times Square at night. If you don't have a 4K HDR TV, then this may be one of those games that may entice you to get one alongside God of War and Horizon: Zero Dawn.

This game isn't perfect, but what game is? My main criticism of the game is with the open world design. It borderline has "Ubisoft Open World Syndrome". What I mean by that is that there is collectibles that feel like filler and repetitive activities. However, it's a Superhero game, so what other types of activities do you expect?

Some of the side missions were okay while some just got tedious. The only collectibles in this game that are worthwhile are the backpacks as they have a background story for the items you will find in them. In addition, you get a(relatively) nice suit for it. If you're big into scenery, then the landmark collectibles will be a treat too. I'm not from New York, so I can't say if they are true to their real life counterparts in terms of location.

I also feel like there are way too many load times in this game, but it's not so much to ruin your experience with the game. Just try not to die too much and you'll be fine.

Regardless, I feel like Spider-Man is a strong contender for Game of the Year. This is yet another great exclusive on Sony's console and Insomniac really surpassed my expectations. Am I the only one who feels that they should be trusted with another superhero game?
I knew about the Persona series because I have a friend who is big into JRPGs. Although I'm a big fan of RPGs, I've never really understood the appeal of JRPGs. Anyways, I decided to give Persona 5 a go because I heard such good things about it and boy was I in for a ride.

I will go so far to call this one of the best RPGs I've ever played and easily the best RPG of 2017. It's not Witcher 3 levels of good, but it's a serious contender despite being way different in tone and themes.

Allow me to go into detail as to just what makes this game so great, but still not quite perfect.

Let's address the elephant of the room. Persona 5 is an extremely long game. When I completed the main story, I clocked in about 102 hours. However, I wasn't necessarily done with everything in the game. I didn't rank up all of my confidants or social stats. Additionally, there were still "side missions" that I never got to because I was so engrossed with other activities you could do in the game.

The side activities you could in the game include hanging out with your friends, working out, doing some eating challenges, part-time jobs, etc. All of these side activities do have an impact on the gameplay. What exactly do I mean? The relationship between you and your teammates.

Persona 5 is a character-driven game. I can say that there is no character in the game that I would consider genuinely bad. Every character in the game is interesting. Some of the them may have flaws due to how they were written, but it's great interacting with them. Remember how I mentioned the side activities affect the gameplay? Well, all of the characters do require you to have your social stats at certain levels as well as maxing out your relationship stats with them to unlock their combat abilities.

Believe me, this game can get damn right bullshit difficult. If you're not taking the time to improve the relationships with any of your teammates, then you're going to be in some serious trouble especially if you're playing on anything higher than Normal difficulty. Not much of a spoiler, but the game gets much harder towards the end.

Besides giving you an edge in combat, you start getting to learn more about your teammates. Each of your teammates is going through something and it's up to you to help see them through their own side stories. Some of them have some rather "rushed" side stories, but you still get to learn more about their true personality.

In case you're curious, you can romance every female confidant in the game besides one. Although there are unique cutscenes that occur with your romance partner, there really isn't that much of an impact on the story. The other characters don't acknowledge your relationship, nor is there any special perks you get for reaching a romantic relationship besides getting an item for your SP or HP.

Let's talk about the Palace levels. As a member of the Phantom Thieves, you're going to be in the metaverse. A lot.

Allow me to explain what a palace is in a way that stupid people like me can understand: a palace is created as a result of someone's distorted desires.

I don't know how I should say this, but I feel like the Palace levels can get really grindy at times. As a first time Persona player, I don't know if it has always been like this. Sure, they can be beaten in a single day, but do you have any idea how long that takes?

The game is not too hard if you know how to manage your items and SP. However, there are enemies that can one-shot you. It's your standard turned-bases combat system. What makes it special is the fact of how stylish the game is. Have you seen the all-out attack animation? You can argue that it may get old after a while, but it still makes Persona 5 stand out from other turn-based combat systems.

The main boss fights of the game are incredibly entertaining. If you've been following my material for a while, you will know that I'm a sucker for boss fights with multiple phases. I do recommend that you do play on the harder difficulties to really get an adrenaline rush when fighting a boss in the game. Because of how the save system works, that adrenaline rush is going to hit you hard.

Let me talk about the save system while we're on that. It can be downright bullshit at times. Save your game as often as you can and be mindful when saving. If you die at any point in a palace level, you're going to start over to your last save. I'm sure many of you can relate to how manual saving can really screw you over if you forget to save and lose hours of progress. It's more fair for boss fights, but if you didn't prepare properly for the fight then you might have to find yourself starting from a different save.

Don't even get me started on Mementos levels. Unless you're a trophy hunter, there really is no point in spending time in Mementos. However, it does become a requirement towards the end of the game. If you're jumping into Persona 5, don't take this as a spoiler, but I do strongly recommend that maybe halfway towards the game start developing a plan on how to progress through Mementos. As soon as you're able, just grind it out to save time later. You'll thank me for this.

One last compliment, the soundtrack. Consider that your last surprise. Okay, I'll stop. The soundtrack is just so funky and makes you want to get up and start dancing. There are a number of songs that stand out, but I don't want to spoil them. You need to play the game in order to get pumped when first hearing them.

Persona 5 is easily the best JRPG of 2017 in my opinion and easily one of the greatest JRPGs to ever grace the face of planet Earth. The story is just great, the characters are well-written, the soundtrack is superb, the animations are amazing, and the combat is so stylish.

The only negative I can think of is just how grindy the palaces can be. A majority of the gameplay stems from these palace levels. I think about more than half the story can be told without the palace level or at least abridged enough for us to understand what's going on.

However, it doesn't change the fact that Persona 5 is one damn good game.
This is a decision that is out of their control and I couldn't imagine what they are all going through at the moment. If you didn't know already, a courtroom case is currently going on between the developers and the creators of Friday the 13th. Although there is no final decision on the matter, it's caused Gun Media to cancel ALL future Friday the 13th DLC.

Yes, we will still be getting updates and patches. Additionally, we'll be getting dedicated serves. However, understand that the game is still not exactly in the best state in terms of quantity.

What I mean by that is that there is still so much content that this game deserves. Remember Paranoia? Yeah, that's probably never going to be released now. This game needed more game modes and this was the game mode that would have seriously changed the game up. How cool would it be to essentially play mind tricks with other people especially if you were the killer? That would have been awesome! It would totally require awareness and communication.

I'm already tearing up on the inside. I bought this game on release date. Yes, the day that the game wouldn't even function. I have over 200 hours put into the game and still play it on occasion because of how much fun I had with it.

I am grateful that the game itself will still be playable, but the thought that nothing new will come to the game is incredibly disappointing to say the least.

I'm also grateful with the post-release content that we got one year later. The number of Jason models we got is amazing and allows for different playing styles. The choice between playing on big and small maps allows very different experiences. The single-player challenges were actually fun to play. Too bad we will not be getting new additions to it.

Don't go after Victor Miller or Sean S. Cunningham. Despite how pissed off I am at them I wouldn't wish death upon them or create a witch hunt. If there is anything I can do to help support Friday the 13th the Game, I will do it in a calm and civil manner.

Gun Media, thank you for giving us this game. Yes, it's not perfect. Yes, it did need more content. Yes, the gameplay may seem repetitive. However, it was such a fun game and I will continue to support it.
There are a couple of elements of the game that I want to talk about and of course all the bandwagon haters that clearly played the game before.

It's been almost eight years since the original Black Ops released. Let me tell you, I didn't originally play the game for its multiplayer as I didn't have Xbox Live at the time, but I played the campaign and the zombies mode.

Let me tell you, other than the Modern Warfare trilogy, Black Ops had an amazing campaign. The story itself was interesting enough to keep you playing it and even gave us a few memorable characters that modern Call of Duty games no longer give us. Plus, the game had some meme worthy moments in it as well. Black Ops 2 also had a good campaign as well.

If you didn't already guess, I am disappointed that Black Ops 4 will not include a campaign. The whole "nobody plays the campaign" argument is bullshit because there are plenty of people who love to play their games with a story.

To some degree, I understand why Black Ops 4 doesn't have a campaign and that has to do with Black Ops 2. If you didn't know this already, Black Ops 2 introduced a non-linear campaign which is pretty goddamn innovative for a Call of Duty campaign. Of course, this already creates a mess in the timeline for the yearly shooter, so they had to go in a different direction for the Black Ops 3 campaign.

Personally, I didn't really enjoy the Black Ops 3 campaign. It was just too much of a jumbled mess to me. It's essentially a poor man's attempt at Halo: Reach.

However, I'd rather have some kind of story than no story at all. Sure, I may not have liked the story for Black Ops 3, but it did provide some pretty enjoyable levels. It also introduced a player-created character. Regardless, at least something new was being attempted.

Okay, now that I got my thoughts out on the lack of a campaign, let me talk about the zombies.

I'm not a huge zombies fan. I did play a lot of the zombies mode from Black Ops and Black Ops 2. After they started incorporating a story, I just lost interest as most people I played with were more into the lore than the actual gameplay itself. I have nothing wrong with it, but if I'm playing a horde mode I just want there to be elements that put emphasis on the gameplay itself rather than on the hidden lore.

It's pretty interesting that they are including three different modes for zombies, but it's really something that I'm not looking forward to.

Moving on to the multiplayer and Battle Royal.

This is where I see the most criticism being drawn to. How many times to I have to keep hearing "Wow, they are just copying _____"? Seriously, if we're going to go with that argument you might as well say that for every video game ever. "Silent Hill? It's just copying Resident Evil!". "Resident Evil? It's just copying Alone in the Dark!". "The Evil Within? It's just copying Resident Evil 4!". Believe me, I can go on for hours about how flawed this argument is.

At least Treyarch is trying something new for the multiplayer. They are trying to make it more team-oriented. I don't understand how people work. They complain that Call of Duty has copy-paste multiplayer, but the moment something new is actually incorporated people start bitching.

I'm not big on Battle Royal, but who the hell cares that Black Ops 4 includes one? Fortnite is essentially PUBG, but it includes crafting making it a completely different game than PUBG. If Black Ops 4 can do something different than PUBG or Fortnite, than who the hell are you to complain about it?

Look, people need to realize that this game is going to sell millions. You can criticize the game all you want, but I hope all you bandwagon haters realize that none of you haven't played the game at the end of the day. You can't say a game is going to be horrible based on a trailer. Just shut the hell up and wait for the game to release and then you can give your opinion on the game.

Now that I got that out of my system, let's call it a day. I know I'm going to buy this game eventually. Especially, if it pisses off all the bandwagon haters.
If you've been following the game, you would have known that the game has been teased for a while now. Regardless, its announcement came as a surprise. Out of all the franchises that id Software could have brought back, they decided to bring back Rage.

Rage was released all the way back in 2011. I didn't play the game back when it first released, but I heard about the PC port being damn near unplayable. However, I did play the game a year after its release and have some relatively good things to say about it.

Rage is a good but flawed game. In retrospect, I understand why some people would call the game disappointing. The story wasn't great, the characters weren't interesting despite giving us a Borderlands-like tone, and the driving combat felt a little tact on. However, the combat itself was great. I also was impressed with the game's graphics despite being seven years old.

It's been a while since I've played the game, but I can say for certain that it's underrated. The game did sell moderately well for a new IP, so a sequel wasn't out of the question, but seven years later is unexpected.

Based on the two trailers that have been released on Rage 2, I can say that this game does look promising. I would love to see more gameplay on it, but I'm still getting that Mad Max and Borderlands like vibe to this game. Maybe this game will have more of a narrative than the original? I sure as shit hope so because this is a game that can benefit from a good story.

id Software has been killing it these past years especially with Doom and Wolfenstein II. I'm confidant that the same can happen for Rage 2. If they fix all the criticisms that I mentioned, I'm sure the sequel will be superior to the original Rage.

If you haven't played the original Rage, I would say give it a shot. Don't expect to be blown out of this world, but it's still a damn good time.
Till Next Time!!Eddie N.http://www.blogger.com/profile/09570229891069396982noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8375372436167371518.post-84720553848589940022018-04-29T08:35:00.001-05:002018-04-29T08:35:04.468-05:00The ElDewrito Situation: My ThoughtsHey Guys, it's been a month since I've written my last post. Lots of things have gone down and a couple of games have been released. I currently have two posts in the works and one of them is my personal choice for the best game of 2017. Also, I plan to release my thoughts on Far Cry 5 a month after release. Anyways, back to the topic at hand.

Halo Online was a cancelled free-to-play game that was being developed for the Russian audience. Since it was cancelled, the assets for the game were essentially abandoned. ElDewrito stepped in and used the available assets to create a mod in order to play Halo Online. Of course, it was successful. Microsoft and 343 Industries took notice of it and threatened potential legal action towards ElDewrito since the mod is using Microsoft owned assets.

There was an explanation from 343 Industries on Halo Waypoint and they stated, " While we are humbled and inspired to see the amount of passion poured into this project, the fact remains that it’s built upon Microsoft-owned assets that were never lawfully released or authorized for this purpose. As this project reverberated across the community, our team took a step back to assess the materials and explore possible avenues, while Microsoft, like any company, has a responsibility to protect its IP, code and trademarks. It’s not optional in other words".

Okay, as of writing this you can still play this mod. According to ElDewrito's official blog, the mod isn't going anywhere as well. The only thing that will happen is that anything in the game with Microsoft owned content will be removed from the game.

It's important to know that this is a Microsoft decision and not 343 Industries's choice. Although I don't think it's cool that they're stepping in and removing some portions of the game, they are in the legal right and can do whatever they wanted with the Halo license. However, it doesn't mean we still can't criticize them for this decision.

Although I have not played the mod, I can see the amount of support and dedication that is being put in this project. This game has a pretty large player base and from the looks of it this mod is built upon the older Halo games. You know, the ones where there were no microtransactions.

We're fast approaching the three year mark since the release of Halo 5 and have only seen one new Halo game so far, but it's not part of the main series.

In my opinion, I didn't really like Halo 5. Not just because the story for the game was painfully disappointing, but the multiplayer was essentially Call of Duty with more microtransactions. If you're enjoying Halo 5's multiplayer, that's great! However, you can't deny that its multiplayer is far different from what past games used to be like.

I feel like this mod is an "escape" from Halo 5. Halo fans have memories of playing Halo 2, 3, and Reach online. While this mod is essentially Halo 3, it's still being supported to be even better than what Halo 3 was. I do respect Microsoft allowing the project to still be available for download, but they did ask to halt the development of the mod.

Anyways, I'm not even sure how the future of Halo is going to look like. It's just not the same as it was over 8 years ago when Halo Reach was released. I don't want to sound pessimistic, but maybe this mod is a good indicator of what the fans want.

While browsing NeoGaf on this topic, I found a quote from Microsoft about this violation of "offensive language", "In the Code of Conduct section, we’ve clarified that use of offensive language and fraudulent activity is prohibited. We’ve also clarified that violation of the Code of Conduct through Xbox Services may result in suspensions or bans from participation in Xbox Services, including forfeiture of content licenses, Xbox Gold Membership time, and Microsoft account balances associated with the account".

Let me get this straight, can I get banned off of Xbox Live if I message someone that I'm going to fuck their mom or something?

I was already aware that you can get a temporary ban for already sending 'offensive' messages, but now it's going to lead to a full on ban? Personally, I don't send messages to people to talk shit to them. I just do that over the mic if the other person is really being a dick to other people.

However, I really don't understand what "offensive language" is suppose to even mean. I'm not allowed to swear over a message anymore? I can't call a game shit or something unrelated to the user themselves shit? I'm going to go off on a limb to say that a majority of Xbox Live accounts are owned by adults, so why on Earth should we be essentially censored to what we can say to each other?

Don't get me wrong. There are some serious assholes out their that will harass people over messages, but remember that there is a mute and block button, so why the hell should there be an update that down right can lead to a ban from the service?

We live in an age where digital games are becoming a norm, so losing your account means that you will lose access to all the games that you have purchased! This is where a legal loophole comes into play because all you have is the license to play these games.

Regardless, we still pay to use Microsoft's service. I get that we shouldn't be treating each other like shit over words. However, words are just words until they actually lead to action. You know how many times I've been told that someone is going to murder me over a video game? Well, I'm still alive to bitch about it, aren't I?

Sometimes I wish I wasn't a human. People can just be outright stupid at times.

The obvious opinion on the most disappointing game this year would be Star Wars Battlefront 2, but I didn't even bother to play it. However, one game that I was looking forward to and played was Mass Effect Andromeda.

My oh my, this game was under a lot of controversy when it initially launched. For good reason as well. Allow me to share my thoughts on the game post-patch, so I don't have to comment too much on the technical issues of the game.

I first want to start off with the story. Understand that the Reapers are not here anymore, so the stakes are not high. Not saying it's a bad thing, but if you're a fan of the situation of Mass Effect 3 then be prepared to be disappointed because there is no "Galaxy at War". You're honestly not going to feel very compelled that there is nothing that big of a threat going on.

The short way to describe this game is that you're just looking for a new home. That's it. You just happen to run into a new species that happens to know English despite the fact they've never run into any humans before. This is more of a criticism towards the logic being used in the story, but let me digress back to the quality of the story.

The best way I can summarize the story is that you're the human Pathfinder in charge of finding a new home for everyone on board. You end up finding a thing called the Meridian that is needed to find a habitable planet and of course some hostile enemy race wants to use it for their own gain. I'm not going to spoil the events of the game, but if you couldn't already tell this isn't nearly on the same scale that the original trilogy was on.

It's not a bad story. However, it's pretty underwhelming for a Mass Effect game. Okay, if the story isn't too hot then surely the dialogue and the characters will save it. Right?

This is purely my opinion, but I didn't find myself getting attached to any of the characters. I played as female Ryder and even my romance choice(Suvi) didn't really stick with me emotionally. I only romanced her because of the accent. Hell, I think Drack was the most memorable character in the game because I like the grumpy old man stereotype. Well, he also had a pretty good sense of humor in my opinion.

Regardless, the only reason why you're going to deepen your loyalty with these people is just to unlock all their combat perks. Believe me, you're going to need to unlock their perks if you're playing on the higher difficulties.

Now that I acknowledged the fact the characters aren't exactly memorable. What about the dialogue?

Ladies and Gentlemen, we find ourselves in another Fallout 4 situation in terms of the dialogue. It's been botched. I have no idea why they decided to get rid of the renegade/paragon system of the past games. I found that to be one of the best parts of the dialogue system in Mass Effect as it could lead to some pretty awesome moments.

Additionally, the choices you make in Mass Effect Andromeda don't really make you feel like you make an impact. There are no multiple endings, just different variations of it depending on your romance option and who you make an alliance with. Even then, it doesn't make a significant difference to how the game ends. Believe me, the ending is just insulting. It's the epitome of sequel bait. I damn near threw my controller at the screen because this easily could have been omitted from the game.

I know that I've been talking about the negative aspects of the game, but there is an aspect of the game that save it from being a bad game. The gameplay.

Every review about the game is right about mentioning the gameplay being the best part of the game. The addition of the jetpack can lead to some pretty adrenaline fueled combat as you can use it to dodge, execute cool maneuvers or perform some pretty nice trickshots. It all controls nicely as well. It doesn't feel like an ice rink, but it just feels smooth.

Furthermore, you can equip three different power-ups from different classes at the same time to suit your playing style. Although it can make the game seem like a breeze, I do appreciate the fact that you can get creative with the way you defeat your enemies.

The planets you visit are completely available to explore. There really isn't much to do in them, but the quests you complete, the more checkpoints you discover, the Architects you destroy, and the vaults you activate will make them more habitable. They don't really effect the story, but they are activities you can do to level up.

You can argue that they are repetitive and not necessary to complete the story, but they do help with powering yourself up. Just don't expect the side quests to be like The Witcher 3.

At the end of the day, I expected more from BioWare. However, I ended up feeling disappointed because this was no where near the quality of the previous games. I said it once and will say it again. This is NOT a bad game. It's just a bad Mass Effect game.

The game is dirt cheap on Amazon, so I wouldn't exactly say that this is not worth playing. The gameplay is what saves the game. I would say play the game to have your own opinion, but please don't say that this is a bad game.
Yeah, I apologize for being away for so long. Life's been busy as usual and I've been working on some new material. Other than life stuff, I've also been busy with video games as well. Let me ramble in the most organized way possible.

The Best and Worst game of 2017
Okay, I'm not going to be making a "Top" list. Although I have played a lot of games this year compared to last year, I just can't bring myself to rank them. Additionally, I was "burdened" to own three consoles(Xbox One, PS4, and Switch), so I was able to play a lot of the best games this year.

I didn't really play a "bad" game this year, but I did play a game that greatly disappointed me. Not because of how "bad" the game is, but just the wasted potential. I'm not going to drop any hints, but I think I'll post my most disappointing game first before I post my best games of 2017.

Don't expect to see The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as my best game of 2017 because I haven't played it. Gasp. I know, but remember I'm a poor college student. However, I'm sure I would have made it my best game if I did play it.

What I've been playing
I did beat a lot of games last year, but I still have quite a lot to go through. I have yet to beat Wolfenstein II and Horizon Zero Dawn. I'm halfway done with Wolfenstein 2 and plan on finishing that before I continue on with Horizon Zero Dawn.

Spoiler alert, Horizon Zero Dawn will not be my best game of 2017. It's a great game, but it's not nearly as good as people make it out to be.

Recently, I finished South Park: The Fractured But Whole and had a blast with it. Seriously, if you're a South Park fan there is no reason for you to not pick this game up. It's not that long of a game. I put in about 15 hours when I finished the main story, but I still had things left to do.

That's it for me today. Anyways, not sure when I'll have the next posts up, but I won't disappear again.
Why? It's because there is a large number of reports being made about the game's performance on the Xbox One and the Xbox One X. I purchased this game day one knowing that I am getting a half finished game, but I wasn't aware of how bad the game runs on the console.

You can have your own opinions on the game, but I'm talking about the game's performance on the console. You already know it's going to be a pain in the ass to aim with a controller, so I'm not going to complain about how the game controls. Besides, I personally believe that the game controls fine especially for a game that is clearly optimized for PC.

The framerate is what is seriously killing the experience. What in the world happened here? I get that Bluehole already confirmed the game was going to run at 30fps, but there are some serious fps drops that occur in the game.

You really start noticing it around the lobby when players start popping in and when you begin dropping into the map. I feel like the game's framerate starts to "smoothen" out close to 30fps when you start exploring the area. When people say that the game's framerate starts dipping every time you move, they aren't completely exaggerating. Depending on which part of the map you end up in and how many people are there, you're game is going to get a serious frame drop that will effect the gameplay.

For a Battle Royale game like this, framerate is going to make or break the experience. It will lead to unfair advantages to all players involved because it's going to be based purely on luck on who lands their shots the best. As I mentioned before, aiming with a joystick in this game is a bitch and most importantly there is no aim assist, so you pretty much have to be a console McCree main to hit your shots assuming the framerate is cooperating with you.

I'm not going to complain about the game's visiuals because I'm not too big on graphics and I'm aware that the quality of the graphics is going to take a dip when compared to its PC counterpart. However, draw distance isn't really that good on the console version. If someone is over 100ft away, you will see them as pixels. Meaning, you're probably not going to tell it's a human being.

I get the whole "game preview" thing, but it's clear that there was not enough time put into optimizing the game's performance on the Xbox One X or the base Xbox One. I'm playing the game on the base Xbox One, so I can say that the game isn't running good on it. There are even graphical issues that I barely touched on which do include pop-ins.

Did they really believe that this game was in a good state to be released on console? I don't understand why they just didn't spend more time focusing on the game's performance rather than just on the visuals. I bet a low-end gaming PC could perform better than the Xbox One version of the game.

Don't get me wrong. This is still PUBG. The game itself is fun. It's not a game for everyone especially if you don't like slow paced tactical shooters. However, if the game were to have a much better framerate then no complaints would be made about it. Well, besides the controls.

If there is truly no other way for you to play this game and you happen to have the Xbox One, then this wouldn't be a terrible choice, but you're better holding off until they manage to patch this framerate issue.
I'm looking through forums and seeing what people think about the SWB2's microtransactions. Wow, EA gets a lot of shit, but this is the year where I noticed that people are not taking their shit anymore.

Image Provided by Reddit

I kid you not, Reddit is full of posts influencing people to stop giving their business to EA and generally giving more reasons to hate the company. I even believe that one of EA's responses to the controversy became one of the most downvoted posts on the site. All of this just puts a big smile on my face as people are taking action.

Want to know how I know people are taking action? EA disabled cancelling pre-orders. You would have to call customer service or something like that in order to cancel your pre-order for SWB2. I don't know if you still have to do that, but it's still funny that they did have to revert to people calling in to cancel their pre-orders. I'm guessing they did this because there was such a large number of people cancelling their pre-orders, so they thought that by having to call customer service they would slow down the amount of people cancelling their pre-orders.

EA had this coming for a very long time. After years of their overpriced DLC, shutting down a good portion of their developers, destroying the reputations of our beloved franchises, and general shady business practices.

However, this certain situation started because SWB2 was essentially a pay to win multiplayer experience. How the hell is it fair for someone to get their ass kicked by someone who paid more for some extra loot crates? I know it's star cards or something like that, but it still runs on random drops. Even if you have the money to drop on these microtransactions, what's the point if it's random?

I do not plan on buying SWB2, so I had to do some serious research on the multiplayer section of the game to understand what is causing this "revolt" against this EA. After reading this article, I can see that the progression system is damn near broken. I gagged as I read this article because of how shady EA is because the progression system is essentially influencing players to buy star cards.

What happens if you choose not to put money into these microtransactions? According to swtorstrategies, it'll take over 4,500 hours of gameplay to earn everything in the game. What in the actual hell? Want to know how much you'll spend if you want to unlock everything in the game? $2,100.

This has to be the final nail in the coffin for EA. Microtranactions are fine unless they are pay to win or generally effect the game to work to your advantage. If the microtranactions were just skins for your characters or weapons, then I'd be cool with that. Free DLC my ass. Sure, map packs will be free, but the actually gameplay relies on grinding which in turn encourages you to pay money to speed up the progress to dominate people in multiplayer.

What a shame. SWB2 seems like a solid game only to be held back by a company that wishes to exploit its brand to screw our wallets. Seriously, fuck EA. Don't give them your business and they'll eventually get the message. I'm also going to practice what I preach and not buy anything from them until they get their shit together.
Most stores will be opening on Thanksgiving Day at 6pm. I know that Walmart, Target, and Best Buy will for sure be open at 6pm on Thanksgiving. Yeah, what a great time when most people are probably eating dinner at a family's house or are hosting a family dinner. Imagine hosting a family dinner and as soon as 6pm hits you tell them,"Okay, I love you all, but you guys need to get the hell out!". Anyways, this is just going to be a list of general Black Friday tips for 2017.

If you're going to be waiting in line before a store opens, make sure to have basic necessities. Have a snack, a couple bottles of water, or even a blanket. I'm from Chicago, so we can get some pretty cold weather. Dress as warm as possible because you're going to be outside for quite some time unless you are fortunate enough to enter the store.

Don't be an asshole. Seriously, pushing and shoving will piss people off and that is going to lead to a fist fight if things get out of control. For the love of God, don't even throw a fit if you didn't get the item your looking for because you could have easily ordered it online or get in line much earlier if you can. Well, assuming it isn't a doorbuster deal or something.

If you're looking for an Xbox One or PS4, both will be on sale everywhere. I believe an Xbox One S is going to run you $190 while the PS4 is going at $200. Don't expect discounts on the Xbox One X or the PS4 Pro.

If you're in the market for a Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch games, just know that you're not going to find a discount on the Switch itself nor for Super Mario Odyssey or Breath of the Wild.

Bethesda fans? Both The Evil Within 2 and Wolfenstein 2 will be on sale. They are cheapest at Best Buy going at $25 a piece. How about Call of Duty? WWII is going for $40 at Best Buy.

Shop online. It's a cool experience to actually go to the store with all those people, but it's not something everybody wants to go through. Just do it all online, but you'll have to wait for all your purchases to come in depending on the shipping date.

That's all I really have to say. Keep an eye out for those leaking ads. Seriously, stay safe if you're going out to the store. Stay smart as well by shopping online and spend some time with your family on Thanksgiving.

Till Next Time!!

I'm just going to say it how it is, this is easily one of the best survival horror games released in recent years and one of the best games of 2017. I'll try to be as structured as possible when talking about this game.

The story in The Evil Within wasn't really memorable, but it had a very interesting concept. In the first game, you're just tossed in without much knowledge and is just an overall confusing plot. I'm not going to spoil what happens in terms of the story, but I will say that you do find out that you're actually in the mind of the antagonist of the game via a machine called STEM that links people's minds together. Honestly, the first game is all about survival and it did its jobs well for what it was.

Think Inception, but this isn't a dream.

The story in The Evil Within 2 feels vastly different compared to the first game as I mentioned back in my impressions post. Not only is this game about survival, but it's about finding your daughter who you thought was dead back in the previous game. I don't believe she was shown in the first game, but it's mentioned she died in a house fire, but I guess she ends up being alive for plot convenience.

For the most part, the story is interesting for what it is. Mobius turns out to be the true villain of the franchise because they were responsible for the creation of the STEM in the first place. I'm not spoiling anything as this is all revealed within the first 10 minutes or so of the game. Regardless, you're in a pretty shitty world that you need to get yourself and your daughter out of. While the story itself may not sound like something original, the characters are a lot more likable this time around and what they go throw compels you to see through the end of their stories.

One of my main complaints from the first game, was the boring main protagonist. What makes a survival horror game feel so tense is the character you play as. Do you honestly feel scared if you're character is something like John Wick? How about the way they react to what they encounter? In the first Evil Within, Sebastian is so non-nonchalant to what's going on around him. It's probably due to the mediocre voice acting, but even if the voice acting was awesome the characters are not exactly well-written.

In The Evil Within 2, it's already established that Sebastian Castellanos is no longer a Detective. As a matter of fact, he's washed up. I personally like how the game introduces him within the first 20 minutes of the game because it shows how the events from the previous game effects him. Not even the first 20 minutes, throughout the whole game you see that there is a evil within Sebastian that continues to haunt him. This is especially shown when he blames himself for losing his daughter as well as the treatment he received after surviving the events of the first game.

Sebastian is more of a character in this game than he was in the original game. He's not memorable by any stretch of the imagination, but the game does a great job at exploring him as a human being. However, to learn more about his backstory you have to go for the collectibles.

The collectibles in this game do serve a purpose. It's worthwhile to collect them because some of them lead you to supplies that you can use to help you in combat as well as exploring Sebastian as a character. You can argue that these collectibles force you to explore in the semi-open world areas such as Chapter 3. I think I spent five hours on Chapter 3 alone just exploring the area without a guide in order to find collectibles and supplies.

The open-world system is okay. Other than the collectibles and supplies, there really isn't much of a purpose to explore these open-world levels. There are side missions, but they only occur whenever you do meet a new character. They reward you with supplies and not much else. For a game like this, I really want them here, but they help with getting ammo and green gel.

Much like the first game, enemies drop green gel that you can use to upgrade Sebastian's physical abilities from shooting to health. Believe me, once you unlock the right abilities you become an unstoppable killing machine. It helps with going back for multiple playthroughs, but does kill the immersion. However, you can't do this on the Classic Mode which I think is a godsend because I think that's the way the game should be played. The limited saves and fight-or-flight mentality help to get you immersed in the survival horror feeling. If you want a real challenge, play this game on the harder difficulties to make it feel like a true survival horror game.

Before I wrap up, I do want to mention how clunky the combat mechanics are at times. Before upgrading your shooting abilities, the weapon sway will ruin your experience if you don't have the best aim. Imagine playing this on classic mode, you're going to want to run more than fight. Don't even try close quarters combat! The camera zooms in way too damn close whenever you take on enemies, so put in some good distance. You do have the option of using either a knife or an axe, but you have to find the axe and the knife doesn't do much damage.

I also mentioned this during my impressions post that Sebastian's movements are too slow. It's one solid reason why you will be discouraged from exploring the open world. I get that it's survival horror and you're supposed to move slow, but not in an open world like setting.

It sucks that this game is pretty much under the radar. If you didn't already know, it's not doing so hot sales wise much to my expectations. Anyone who is a fan of survival horror games needs to play The Evil Within 2. It's easily one of the best survival horror games I've ever played and is a significant improvement over the first game.
As a matter of fact, I was just going to keep this on the down low because I don't really talk about Overwatch much. I know I made two posts complaining about the toxicity in the game and a couple of miscellaneous posts about the game, but I've finally had enough.
I consider myself to be a mild mannered person. The only time I will respond to a toxic teammate is when they start believing they are "carrying" and are just overall providing no useful feedback. However, a lot of them LOVE talking over you instead of shutting their mouth up to actually listen. Believe me, there are just times where I just lose my shit if someone is being toxic to me or anyone else on the team.

The whole, "if someone is being toxic just mute them", defense just doesn't work. Do you know how much of a disadvantage you will have if you lose the amount of players in voice chat? I get that they are being an asshole, but most of them will still make call outs(albeit in the most aggressive way possible).

Don't even get me started on toxic players who don't use mics and love to spam "Thanks!" in the chat log. It's especially annoying when they just start throwing because you'll have no idea why they are throwing. A lot of the time they'll throw if you pick their "main" or you pick a hero they don't like. Even if you do make the switch, they probably will still throw.

Whenever I play Competitive, I tend to play D.Va or another tank because I just don't like playing DPS even though I main McCree. Why? If there is a toxic teammate on your team, about 99% of the time they'll blame the DPS for a loss or just their overall performance. It's probably because they wanted to play DPS, but got salty as soon as someone autolocked DPS. I get that it's more satisfying to do the damage, but if you're playing on a Diamond level or above, then you absolutely NEED to learn how to flex.

I'm making a lot of the same arguments I made in previous posts about me bitching about the toxic players in the game because it's STILL happening. Even with the addition of the report feature on consoles, the toxicity still keeps coming. A lot of the time it's from a smurf account, so there's no point in getting it ban because they'll just make another account and continue being toxic to other people.

With the little time that I have to play this game, I have fun playing this game competitively when nobody is being toxic. If my team lost a game, there was no blame game going on. We just would say "gg" and call it a day. If there was toxic behavior going on in the game, then prepare to get ear raped from your headset.

I can't tolerate it anymore. Therefore, I'm quitting Competitive Overwatch. Season 6 is ending in a few days and I couldn't be happier. I've been thinking about quitting for a long time and now it's going to happen. One part of me is upset because I won't be able to play a match of Quick Play where people actually take the game seriously, but at the same time I won't have to deal with toxic players.

Overwatch is a fun game, but it's the community is just causing the game to implode. If you're planning on starting Overwatch, just be aware of what you are getting yourself into. Goodbye, Comp.
This isn't going to be formal as usual and just going to be rambling about video game stuff.

Big subject this week and last week is the perception that singleplayer games are just dying and this is being reaffirmed by Rockstar after they've finally revealed the truth about why there wasn't story DLC for Grand Theft Auto V. They said Grand Theft Auto Online and Red Dead Redemption 2 have been taking up most of their time, so they just couldn't focus on single-player content. In reality, they were profiting too much from Grand Theft Auto Online and decided to just either focus on the online portion or just sit around and watch the money come in.

I do agree that there aren't a whole lot of new single player games coming out and the ones coming out tend to have microtransactions. However, 2017 has seen the release of some great single player games such as Nioh, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and Persona 5.

I don't think this is something that is going to happen within the next couple of years, but I do feel like it's going to progress very slowly assuming that online battle royal and hero arena games start phasing out. Better yet, it'll end when people stop paying for microtransactions in single-player games.

Before I wrap up, I will be working on another The Evil Within 2 post. I completed the game last Thursday and have a lot to say about the game.
I did get the game on the first day of release, but I didn't get a chance to actually play until Saturday. I still haven't finished the game and as of writing this I'm on Chapter 9. What do I think of the game so far? Remember, this is just my impressions and not a full on review of the game. I may or may not release a review of the game. It all just depends on how much time I have.

This is a screenshot I took from the Xbox One version of the game. I think this is miles more beautiful compared to the first game.

If you've played The Evil Within, you'll notice that there is just an immediate shift in tone when you first start up the game. The first game started you off as a Detective simply working on a case without knowing what he was getting himself into while the second is about the same detective(now an ex) who is on a mission to save his daughter knowing what he's getting into.

The Evil Within is undoubtedly a survival horror video game. Sure, the difficulty of the game will effect your experience, but for the most part you had to be careful about how much ammo you used and what abilities you unlock to help you get through the story. This game is pretty difficult once you start playing on higher difficulties because resources are a lot more scarce and you're pretty much forced to use stealth in this game to conserve whatever supplies you want.

The Evil Within 2 is still a survival horror video game, but it plays differently compared to the first game. What major difference is the semi-open world.

Personally, I feel like the semi-open world is going to be divisive among players. I like it because it pretty much forces you to explore the area to find both supplies and collectibles. In my opinion, it's worthwhile to go for the collectibles because not only do they provide backstories, but some of them actually provide set pieces or more supplies that you need to survive.

However, due to Sebastian's slow movement speed you might be turned off from exploring the open world. I get that you're supposed to be moving slow in survival horror games, but this movement is unnecessarily slow given the size of the environment around you. Remember Resident Evil 4? You moved slow, but you could sprint for faster movement without a stamina bar! I feel like the stamina bar hinders exploration because you could only sprint for so long and it's barely faster than the standard movement.

In all honesty, the controls aren't the best especially when it comes to close quarters combat because the moment you aim down the camera zooms in a bit too close to you for you to miss an enemy that is in your face. Why I can't shoot from the hip is beyond me, but I guess it's done like that for the survival horror feeling.

I'm trying to avoid wording this like a review, so bear with me. All I can say that gameplay wise the game isn't too different from the original The Evil Within. With the implementation of open world elements they did take some risks. I don't really want to talk about side missions because there aren't a whole lot in the game, but just know that it's worthwhile to complete them in order to keep getting supplies.

While I'm playing on medium difficulty at the moment, I can say that The Evil Within 2 is slightly easier than the original because of the crafting system. You can upgrade your weapons, craft ammo, and even craft healing supplies!

So far, I'm liking the game. The story is nothing special, but I still find it to be interesting. Just don't expect to see award winning voice acting or memorable characters. If you played the original game, I say try this game out some time. Maybe I'll give a full fledged review of the game if I either absolutely love the game or just have second thoughts on it.

Okay, I understand what the OP was trying to get to when he mentioned that back in 2014 The Evil Within was released into a market where we didn't have a Japanese Survival horror game available in October. Additionally, he mentioned that the game was hyped up way ahead of its launch due to its artwork, "slow cross gen period" and the developers behind it.

I personally became hyped up for the game when I heard the director of Resident Evil 4 was working on The Evil Within. I don't believe there was a gameplay trailer until E3, but that is what solidified my hype for the game. At that time, people who were really into Resident Evil were hyped for this game due to the disappointment of Resident Evil 6 for not going back to its survival horror roots.

The OP was right about there not being enough promotion to The Evil Within 2. I don't even think I seen one commercial on live TV promoting the game while the first game has plenty of commercials for the game-at least when I was watching AMC. Additionally, Resident Evil 7 released this year! Who wouldn't want to buy that game over The Evil Withing 2? Promotion is going to be the killing blow for this horror sequel since the only sources promoting the game's release are gaming outlets and a couple of retail stores!

I chuckled a bit when he mentioned Sins of the Father Curse. This actually made a lot of sense. Titantfall and Watch Dogs weren't bad games, but they ultimately ended up as some of the most disappointing games at the time. While I never played Watch Dogs 2, I can say that Titanfall 2 is a significant improvement over the first game and easily one of the best games of 2016. However, it was wiped out due to Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Battlefield 1 demolishing the gaming market. I even forgot to mention the other games that came out in October which even include the Skyrim remaster!

Another thing I feel like should be mentioned was the fact The Evil Within released on Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. See where I am getting at? Since it was available on so many consoles, it's able to have a much bigger audience, so the fact that The Evil Within 2 will only be available on three platforms means that sales are going to take a hit.

Going back to the Sins of the Father Curse, I wouldn't say that The Evil Within was a bad game. I agree with the author that it's flawed, but I never really encountered the problems the OP listed. My main issue with the game is the main protagonist not really having much of a personality.

I don't believe that the game is going to be a complete commercial failure, but I do feel like it's not going to exactly match its predecessor's sales on day one. Based on early impressions of the game, The Evil Within 2 is an improvement over the first game. I know I'm getting it through Amazon on Friday, so I'm personally excited for the game.

If I'm wrong about the game not being a commercial failure, then I can definitely see it becoming a cult classic much like Titanfall 2.
It feels like yesterday since this game first game out. I remember being hyped up for this game as I was a fan of the previous game in the series. I didn't get a chance to play the game until March of this year, so I won't be complaining about the bugs and glitches that occurred within the first month the game released.

Most of you might not agree with my opinion of the game, but I'm just going to say it. I don't think Mafia III is a great game. Why? I have just two major complaints on the game and I'll go into detail on them.

The gameplay in this game is just derivative and monotonous. All those critical reviews that you may have saw from reviewers, other players, and your favorite YouTubers could have all mentioned just how repetitive the missions are in this game. It's as if the developers of the game couldn't get the game design right. You end up doing the same activities over and over just to progress through the story.

Let me demonstrate. I'll even label the steps and it's essentially all the missions in a nutshell.

The game instructs you to talk to an NPC.(One of your underbosses, their partners, etc...)

Said NPC tells you their problem that you need to take care of. (Kill someone, rob something from someone, rescue someone, etc...)

You go to drive over to the location to take care of the problem. (Mind you there is no fast travel in the game, so expect to be doing a lot of driving)

You take care of the problem and have to drive back to tell the NPC that you took care of the problem and get paid.

Assign district/racket to an underboss depending if the mission demands you to do so.

Depending on the type of mission, you get a cutscene.

Repeat steps for next mission

What went wrong with the mission structure? Did these guys get lazy halfway through the development of the game or was it all just an afterthought?

Okay, the previous game had the same issue in terms of repetitive gameplay. However, you didn't have to keep on doing the same tasks to capture areas of a map in order to unlock the next cutscene. Every mission you did progressed through the story. It made the game feel shorter, but the story was good and made you want to push through the game in order to finish it.

This brings me to my other main criticism of the game: the open-world. New Bordeaux is a great setting for the game especially in 196 due to racial segregation and Vietnam effecting American culture at the time. However, there isn't much to do in the world.

All you're doing is driving around completing story missions and not really doing much of anything else. There are collectibles, but they don't necessarily add anything important to the game. Sure, there are optional missions, but they are pretty much the same as doing the story missions in terms of the activities. Sure, you can race in the game, but why do that if you're spending a good chunk of the game driving to your next objective anyways?

Don't get me wrong, you could still have fun with the game by doing stupid actions that aren't relevant to the missions. Much like GTA, you could have a standoff with the cops in the game if you'd like. However, a neat part of the game is that depending on what part of the map you're on the cops will either come quickly or slowly. It's not really encouraged to take part in these activities since you can die pretty easily in this game if you're not careful due to the amount of damage you could take in the game.

I talked about what was wrong with the game, but does it make it a bad game? No. The story and characters are possibly the strongest part of the game.

You could tell that a lot of effort has been put into the story and voice acting. Holy shit. Just look at the cutscenes for the game and you'll know what I mean. The cinematics are just graphically impressive and the lip syncing is on point. I wish the game looked exactly like the cinematics, but I guess we can't all get what we want.

Sure, the revenge story has been done a million times in different variations, but the actor for Lincoln Clay did a damn good job at showing how much rage was truly behind the character. I like Lincoln Clay as a character and prefer him over Vito from Mafia II. The reason for this is because of how Lincoln Clay doesn't seem to give a shit abut what was going on in American society and is instead focused on his adventure for revenge.

I said it once and I'm going to say it again. This is not a great game, but I would say it's worth a try if you could get past the repetitive gameplay. This is easily one of the best stories told in 2016, but this is a rare case where story over gameplay has harmed a game because this particular gameplay isn't very good.
Till Next Time!!Eddie N.http://www.blogger.com/profile/09570229891069396982noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8375372436167371518.post-86731968445230298342017-10-01T18:17:00.002-05:002017-10-01T18:17:54.910-05:00Update: Rise of Broketober 2017Hey Guys, it's a big month for video games and entertainment as a whole. There are literally a lot of games that I would like to get this month that include The Evil Within 2, Wolfenstein 2, and Super Mario Odyssey. Okay, I don't have a Nintendo Switch, but I really want to play Super Mario Odyssey.

This is just an article where I just get to type whatever comes to mind and talk about video games. I don't really have a particular structure as to what I'm going to be talking about, so just know that I'm going to be talking about one game and then move onto the next one. Additionally, people stop PMing about Destiny 2 because I won't be playing that anytime soon.

The Evil Within 2
Okay, The Evil Within 2. It's the month of Halloween, so why on Earth wouldn't you want to play a horror game? To be honest with you, I personally believe that The Evil Within is one of the most underrated horror video games in recent years. The gameplay feels very smooth and is reminiscent of Resident Evil in the survival horror department.

The Evil Within is a game that should be played on Hard because it forces you to think twice about using weapons. Additionally, it makes enemies a lot harder to take down. They were already annoying to take down because you have to burn them to make sure they didn't come back. At least, that's what I remember the game being like. It's been a long time since I have finished the game.

The story itself is also a very cool concept. The main protagonist and antagonist aren't really interesting to me because of the lackluster voice-acting performance of the protagonist and the generic characteristics of the antagonist. I guess you could say that about most of the characters because I felt that more character development should have been added into the game, but it's serviceable for what it is.

Forza Motorsport 7
I'm not much of a fan of racing games, but the Forza series is pretty cool to me. I only played Forza Motorsport 5 and really want to get into the Horizon series.

If you didn't already know, I have the Xbox One X pre-ordered and want to take advantage of its capabilities. Why not see how Forza Motorsport 7 performs? This is a damn good looking game and would look amazing in 4K HDR running at a beautiful 60fps.

I won't be getting this day one. I'm sure it'll go on sale by Black Friday as well as most 4K TVs, so I'll keep an eye out on this game.

Wolfenstein 2
Wolfenstein was a series that wasn't known for its story. The series was the basis of Doom. B.J Blazkowicz was the original character in the first first person shooter game ever created. This man has been kicking ass before Doomguy.

However, Wolfenstein took a new direction when The New Order released. The game actually had a decent story and B.J. Blazkowicz had more of a character to him. The New Order really succeeded in the gameplay department because you could play it full guns blazing or just play it stealthily. The voice acting was also pretty impressive for what it was. If you haven't played The New Order, then please go pick it up.

You need to personally watch gameplay of The New Colossus. For crying out loud, you start the game off killing Nazis in a wheelchair. I don't think I've ever seen a game do that before. Based on early impressions of the game, the characters are being more developed this time around and this game is taking place on American soil!

I'm a fan of Red Dawn and this game in particular is giving me that Red Dawn vibe, so I'm excited to see what this game has to offer in terms of story.

Final Ramblings
I'm considering getting a Nintendo Switch, but come holiday season it's going to be extremely hard to find. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey are system sellers on their own, so it sucks I don't have the console to play them on.

Some other games I would like to get include Persona 5, The Sims 4, and Call of Duty: WW2. I didn't include them on this "list" since they aren't releasing in October. Well, Persona 5 and Nioh have been out I just didn't have the time to play them.

I'm looking forward to playing a lot of these games, but it's going to be tough trying to budget them. I'm going to try to get The Evil Within 2 this month. Also, I'm still working on that In Retrospect post. I'm sorry for the wait, so I'll do my best to have a double post this week to make up for that.
The new Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer was amazing and is just building up hype for the game. I just can't wait for the game to release. As tradition towards the end of the month, I will you my thoughts on the free games on Xbox. Just a little side note, PlayStation has a much better lineup of free games for next month.
I heard good things about Gone Home. Keep in mind, not everyone is going to be into these types of games because it's based on exploration, atmosphere, and general puzzle solving. While I am interested in playing it, I'm not sure I'll be able to play it especially in Broketober.

The Turning Test has been put on sale so many times that it's not even funny. I was scared to play it because I'm terrible when it comes to puzzle games. It's very reminiscent of Portal, so that's the main reason why I would like to give it a try.

Alright, I'm a big fan of Rayman. While I already played Rayman 3, it's good to give it a re-visit. If you're not into platformers, then this is not the game for you.

Medal of Honor Airborne was a solid game back in the game, but it hasn't exactly aged well. I would give it a try to just see how it compares to what I remember it being like. Just looking at the game you could tell it looks pretty dated. However, the guys at Xbox have a quote when it comes to including first person shooters.

Anyways, it's a much better month for Xbox Live users. Personally, I prefer PlayStation's free games because they are getting Metal Gear Solid 5 next month. Sure, I played the hell out of it, but it's an amazing game.
Okay, we all know what Player Unknown's Battlegrounds is due to its crazy amount of popularity and concurrent players. Seriously, this game is just killing it. Since I'm a console peasant, I'll have to wait until the Xbox One version of the game releases to be able to get into the action.
We got a couple of details from the developer, Automaton, that the game will support 400 players in a Battlegrounds inspired gameplay. There was also a couple of screenshots, but it's nothing special since it doesn't really tell us anything important about the game. These maps are going to be huge (they are aiming for 12km by 12km) in order to accommodate the amount of players on a server.

Okay, I know what most of you are thinking. This is just aiming to be a Battlegrounds clone or merely aiming to profit off of Battlegrounds's success. It's arguable for sure.

If you've been following my blog for a while, you'll know I'm not a fan of big open-world games if there is nothing to do in them. What makes Battlegrounds so different to this exception is that the map decreases over time and you have to explore to get better items and weapons. It gets the adrenaline pumping!

If Project X is too similar to Battlegrounds in this regard besides just being bigger, then it's just a rip-off at that point. According to an IGN article,"In addition to its Battle Royale mode, the MMO will feature dynamic weather, roaming wildlife, social hubs, and a "player-driven" story". The final half of this sentence reminds me of The Division. That's not a good thing. I didn't like Tom Clancy's Pedestrian Simulator. The game has gotten better, but that's besides the point.

The point is, if this game doesn't do something avoid being similar to Battlegrounds then its in trouble. What's the point of being bigger if there's no soul?

Honestly, I'd rather stick to PUBG. I like the idea of 100 players. Anything above that is just too much for me. If you are liking this idea, that's fine. It will be releasing in 2018. Because of the popularity of PUBG, I don't see anyone switching over to Project X any time soon.
I was planning on talking about how Doom and Wolfenstein 2 were coming to the Switch and having a discussion about how the Nintendo Switch should be considered some serious competition. However, I think it's time to talk about if it's the right time to buy one.
Although Nintendo isn't exactly friendly when it comes to content creators, we cannot deny that every game developed by them is pure gold. So far, the console has some damn good exclusives.

Seriously, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is already considered to be one of the greatest games of all time. The recent Mario and Rabbids isn't even developed by Nintendo and is getting some pretty good reviews. How could Super Mario Odyssey be a bad game? There hasn't been a bad Super Mario game in a long time.

This bundle is coming with a game that is going to be good, a pair of red Joy-cons, and a carrying case. If you're on the go, how could you pass up on the offer of a carrying case coming with a bundle like this?

Honestly, the main issue with this bundle or even future Nintendo Switch bundles is that it doesn't come with an SD card. If you're planning on getting as many exclusive games as possible, then you're going to be disappointed with how much room is available on the Switch.

If you just want Super Mario Odyssey by itself, then you can get it on Amazon. You get that discount if you're an Amazon Prime Member after all. Just use this link right here, Super Mario Odyssey - Nintendo Switch.

The bundle will be releasing on October 27th. You can't get it on Amazon at the moment, but keep an eye out as I see these selling out quickly.
